Matt Holliday to the Oakland A’s
The trade hasn’t been confirmed just yet, but rumor has it that the Billy Beane and the A’s are near a trade with the Colorado Rockies sending big bad slugger Matt Holliday to the A’s. The A’s plan to send pitcher Greg Smith and super-prospect Carlos Gonzalez to Colorado.
Matt Holliday is just what the A’s need. Ever since the departure of Jason Giambi and Miguel Tejada, the A’s, moreorless, has been missing an clutch offensive bat to rely on (Frank Thomas and Jack Cust have been alright, but only temporary solutions). With the A’s hopes that Eric Chavez could fill in the mighty cleats of former MVPs Giambi and Tejada – sidelined by injuries – the A’s have now found that missing leader.
Holliday has 1-year left on his contract, but with a plethora of young pitchers, and a new stadium awaiting in Fremont, ergo new revenue, if the A’s can pull off a solid year chances are the A’s will be able to keep Holliday in town for seasons to come.
P.S. I know this has nothing to do with the Raiders, but Oakland Sport’s needs any bit of bright news. And the Athletics will forever be the OAKLAND A’s (Fremont…where?).
